Cool Windows to Mac

Hi!
I just got my new Macbook laptop yesterday. It's my first Mac ever and I have been using Windows vista. I don't really understand everything about Mac and I'm scared to download anything or plug anything up to it b/c I'm scared I'll end up breaking it.

I have an iPhone and I've been using it on my Windows. Is it okay if I plug it into my Mac and start using my Mac for my iPhone or will that mess up my phone and/or computer?

Also should I get an antivirus for my Mac? If so, which one is the best?

Any other tips or tricks for my Mac let me know!

You shouldn't have any trouble downloading and using anything on the Mac, however, you need to make sure its Mac-compatible. Things like .exe files won't execute on a Mac (without the proper set-up of programs, at least).

When it comes to anti-virus programs, you won't really need any. Though Macs CAN contract viruses, they're VERY rare and uncommon so you can rest easy on that one.

About the iPhone...I've never had one so Im not sure. They're both Apple products so the compatibility is definitely there, however, I know iPods etc. can only sync to ONE computer, if Im not mistaken? So I'm not too sure about how you'd go about that without having to format you iPhone, sorry :-/

I don't really have anything to add to what Dave said, except that you'll LOVE the Mac. They're so easy to use and they're very dependable...at least that's been my experience. And Dave is right about the anti-virus stuff. I don't have any anti-virus software on mine and (knock on wood) I haven't had any problems in the two years I've had it. And this is coming from someone who ALWAYS managed to get a virus on his PC!

If you're not going to use your computer anymore, you should deauthorise your iTunes account on it. But that's not really as important now everything is DRM free.
I think if you hook your iPhone up to your Mac it will format it. But it will certainly work.

But yes, this is the best decision you've made in your life so far
